Length of Procedure:

Back to Normal: a few hours
Why Choose To Have Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Wrinkles on the forehead, known as ‘frown lines’, as well as around the eyes, neck and mouth can all be improved with having an  Injectable Wrinkle Treatment. It is possible to not only reduce the wrinkles, but change the shape of the eyebrows. With selective injections the brow can be made to look higher, fresher and more arched. This treatment uses Botulinum Toxin to relax the muscles and improve the appearance of the wrinkles. Botulinum Toxin has been used medically without any safety problems for over 30 years and is a licensed product to use for cosmetic treatments.
This is also an excellent form of treatment for excessive sweating (Hyperhydrosis) of the armpits. In some cases it also seems to treat migraines well by preventing spasm of the frontal forehead muscles.

Procedure
In Brief:
This procedure can be very effective and in Amir Tadros’s opinion, is one of the most successful of all of the non-surgical cosmetic treatments. Very small amounts of Botulinum Toxin is inserted into skin penetrating the muscles. No anaesthetic is used, but sometimes the skin is cooled with ice.

After treatments patients are instructed to do some exercises to ensure the product moves fully into the muscle for maximum effectiveness. It takes 3-7 days to start working and lasts for 4-6 months. This may be slightly less on the first injections and longer on subsequent injections.

Medicines
A full medical history will be obtained before any surgery. As a precaution, do not take any over the counter medicines or herbal remedies prior to surgery or for 3 days following. Also avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Voltarol-based tablets. It would be useful to bring a list of any prescribed medications to your Pre-operative Assessment.

Recovering from Anti-Wrinkle Injections
The skin around the injected area may be a little red for the first few hours after treatment. It is possible to have some very small bruises. Amir Tadros advises all patients to exercise the area of muscle that has been treated every five minutes for the first hour to help the product move into the muscle. Patients are advised not to rub the treated areas for 48 hours following treatment.

Time Off Work And Socialising:

No time off work will needed after the day of treatment. Patients are advised to avoid alcohol, sleeping and wearing any tight-fitting headwear before and immediately after treatment, to prevent any further bruising or movement of the product.

Time To Exercise
:
Patients should avoid carrying out any strenuous exercise on the day of treatment, but should be fine thereafter.

Driving
Patients' ability to drive will not be affected by this procedure.

Final Outcome
The results will be visible from 3-7 days, and should be fully effective at 2 weeks.

Potential Complications With Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

This is a routine procedure that is a great success for the vast majority of patients. However, as with any procedure, it is very important you understand what can go wrong as well as right. The potential complications are listed below, most of which would only occur if the product was to be injected into the wrong place.

Droop (Ptosis)of eyelid or eyebrow: Amir Tadros avoids the possibility of this occurring by avoiding injecting the sensitive eyelid area, which could paralyse the muscles that elevate it. He also avoids injecting too much product into the forehead, preventing it from becoming paralysed and therefore affecting the position of the eyebrow.

Small degrees of asymmetry: The same injection will be performed on both sides of the face. However, there is a small chance of a greater effect on one side compared to the other.

Bruising: Any bruising will be minor.

Allergic reactions: Exceptionally rare.
